Still life

JOSH OLINS

The December 2013 issue of British Vogue features the fantastic story ‘Still Life’, photographed by Josh Olins
Styled by Lucinda Chambers with models Sam Rollinson, Anna Ewers and Ashleigh Good.

Still life is  inspired by the old dutch masters such as Vemeer, Rembrandt and Steen. The colours are rich and deep, the clothes are exquisite in their detail and opulent pearls are adorned everywhere. I can’t help but think that these images have more in common with baroque artwork than the dutch masters, the dutch masters focused on much more natural and realistic interpretations of what they saw often painting rural scenes, everyday occurrences and even (in the strong case of Vemeer) servants. However ‘Still Life’ does have strong running themes with the Dutch masters but I feel that the similarities are closer to that of the Flemish Baroque portraits. At any rate they are beautiful examples of Fashion Photography.
